My Baba's Home Town

I came across this article about my Baba's home town. [Vyznytsia is another name for Viznitz.]
If the cemetery shown is indeed in Viznitz, then many of my ancestors are buried there.

Well, it Makes Sense!

Mom was visiting my niece and her husband  this past week.  Their little son, who is about to turn five, was asked what grade he was going to be in this year.
He answered that he was going into the fifth grade, because he is going to be five years old!
Well, it makes a lot of sense!

That reminds me of the scene in Beverly Cleary's Ramona the Pest, when Ramona went to school by herself for the first time. Her mother told her to leave the house at a quarter after eight.
Ramona knew that a quarter is 25 cents, so a quarter after eight must be 25 minutes after eight.
And, come to think of it, my nephew is about the same age as Ramona was in the book!

Something Added to my Break-Off Collection

Mom recently found something in one of her drawers, and gave it to me for my Break-Off Collection.  It is a plastic on/off and/or adjust volume button from a portable radio and/or cassette player, I think.
I've already realized that I won't always be able to identify everything in this collection with complete accuracy, but, after all, it is a casual, a VERY casual, collection.

Synagogue in Viznitz

This photograph of the Hasidic synagogue in Viznitz, Austria which I found online, was taken sometime between 1910 and 1920.
It may have been the one my family attended, although as far as I know, they never were Hasidic Jews.
Something new to wonder about!

Phone Scam

I would say that preying on the elderly, and exploiting the love of a grandparent for a grandchild is despicable, but that would be an understatement!

Encouraging news about EWTN's Fr. Anthony

Fr. Anthony hopes to be back on the air in the near future.  Oh, HOW I'm praying for that to happen! https://franciscanmissionaries.c...
