Writing Every Day

Lately,  I've been working on my fan fiction every day, and I intend (hope!) to keep it up.

There are days when I get a great deal written, and can publish several stories and/or chapters in one week.  Then again, there are times when one scene, just one scene, takes days to get right.  Sometimes I'll have to scrap a scene altogether!

Going Backwards, Moving Forward

Lately, I've been moving forward by going backwards.
What do I mean by that?

Years ago, before there was an Internet, before I had a computer, I wrote something every day.  Sometimes it was
a poem, (although I don't write much poetry these days; the poem I used in my AU Waltons prequel is one I had written
a long time ago.) sometimes a story, or part of a story, and sometimes just an idea for something to write later.

But for some time now, I was just writing on and off, and, unfortunately, mostly off.

But then I decided to quit being lazy... yes, LAZY... as a writer,

and get back to work.

Now, I work on my fan fiction every day.  Some days, it's a new story, a new chapter in an in-progress story, or just a few lines in a fic I'm working.  Some days, it's just a few new ideas to be developed in the future.  Some days, it's a few changes to an already published fic.  And quite often, I do several of these things... new story, new chapter, several lines, new idea, changes... in one day.

"Not a day without a line."

I feel most like me when I write.

Working on A Very Personal Fic

I'm working on a very personal piece of fan fiction right now.  It is based in part on several incidents from my childhood, but is set in the present.  I will also be adding some things that never actually happened, some words that were never really said.
I don't know how long it will take me to finish the story, because I've found that I have to work on it slowly; I can't handle too much of it at once. It's  like woodcarving, and I'm both the wood and the tools.
So why am I writing it?
Years ago, when I was a school girl being scolded and shamed in front of my classmates for things like poor handwriting, a part of me seemed to split away from the scene that was taking place.   I could see it as if it were happened to another person.  Yes, I'd be humiliated, and angry, and crying, and yet in a tiny corner of my mind, I was wondering how to write about it.

This is a story that I wrote and posted on fanfiction.net some time ago, but then I realized that it wasn't quite right... it needed something, but I couldn't figure out just what.  

And then, suddenly, I knew.... and it was so simple.  A slight change to what Felicia says near the end of the story has made all the difference.
